The “Youthful Energetic Seniors in Spandex” (YESS), and Chuckatuck Chainring (CC), clubs of enthusiastic cyclists, are planning their weekly ride on October 8th, 2014 from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM. The riders will meet in the Picnic Shelter parking area in First Landing State Park. The cyclists are riding to benefit Lets Open Doors, founded to educate and advocate the need for accessible entry doors. All persons with disabilities, seniors with age-related problems, and parents accompanied by small children and their gear require accessible entry doors for equal access to goods and services, a civil right since 1973.
Old heavy entry doors with non-accessible hardware are architectural barriers and dangerous to these persons. Other than someone coming to the doors to assist, better operating doors allow patrons to enter medical offices, banks, their favorite restaurants, many of them with double doors, creating a win-win relationship of empowerment. Patrons gain access. Businesses provide a higher and safer quality of life to their patrons, who remain valued. Businesses gain market share as a “friendly business to all” and have the benefit of a 50% tax credit for Disability Accessibility. Readily achievable solutions appear on the Lets Open Doors website.
Youthful Energetic Seniors in Spandex (YESS) and Chuckatuck Chainring (CC) add to the growing numbers of partners with Lets Open Doors. Partners include American Disabled Veterans Ch. 20, Vietnam Veterans of America Ch. 969, Senior Advocate, and Hampton Roads Parkinson Chapter. In addition to the support of the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Department in this mission, Lets Open Doors has received a Resolution of Support from the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission and a certificate of Recognition from the Virginia Beach Mayor’s Committee of Persons with Disabilities.

WELCOME to all the members of the TEAMSTERS RETIRED UNION 822!
Thanks to Floyd Newkirk for asking us to present LETS OPEN DOORS to their membership. Their members will take brochures to other organizations or churches to which they belong. The word is spreading that it is time to update entry doors voluntarily!!
Correct ADA loop handles and lightened door pressure allow equal access to goods and services with less danger of injury to a person using a walker or a wheelchair. It protects an assisting caregiver, and parents with small children and a stroller.
It brings more patrons to accessible-friendly businesses, so everyone wins. We're all in this life together!
Thanks, gentlemen! We're delighted to have you as Partners.
OUR COALITION continues to grow…!
